Junior Church

firefoxEach Sunday morning, during term time, we hold a lively Junior Church for children aged between 3 years and 15 years old. There are approximately 36 children on our register, with an average of 16 children attending each week.

We worship with the main congregation for the first quarter of an hour and then depart for our own activities. The children are divided up into four teaching groups, consisting of The Sparklers (3 - 4 years) The All Stars (5 - 7 years) The Trailblazers ( 8 - 10 years ) and The Lasers (11 - 13 + years). Our teaching notes comprise Scripture Union's Salt Programme, which is packed with strong Biblical content that is easy for the children to understand and fun for the children too!! For the last 10 - 15 minutes, we all meet together to discuss each group's achievements, catch up on news, sing and have a time of prayer.

At various times during the year, we enjoy outings together. This year, for instance, we visited Groombridge Place in Kent, which included exploring in an enchanted forest, face painting and a bird of prey display. We hold Activity Workshop Days, where the children take part in a range of arts, crafts and drama with the accent on fun and enjoyment.

Taking advantage of the excellent facilities the church now has, we recently invited the children to take part in a sleepover with breakfast the next morning. Everyone had a great time including the teachers!

The Junior Church frequently raises money to assist in worthwhile causes. We support the Leprosy Mission as an ongoing project and more near to home, have recently held a sponsored silence to raise money for the local hospital's children's ward.

The children all love animals and many have pets of their own. Last year, we decided to hold a Pet Service and the children were invited to bring along their special pet to church! It was a great success and all sorts of animals came along from a Pyrennean Mountain dog to a goldfish ! As animals are part of God's creation and bring so much happiness to children and adults alike, we felt it was appropriate to acknowledge this by blessing them and thanking God for them.

Our Junior Church aims to teach our children about God and Jesus from the Bible and provide them with a greater understanding of what it means to be a young Christian in the world today. Children are encouraged to play musical instruments in services and take part in other aspects of church life when possible, believing them to be a very important part of our church. Once a quarter, there is a special family service where the children stay in church all the time.

We endeavour to make our Junior Church a happy place to be where the children enjoy coming on a Sunday morning. Be assured that you will find a very warm welcome here.
