Tower Appeal

firefox You may have seen some scaffolding surrounding the Church tower at Shaw's Corner.

What's going on?....... are they taking down the Tower?.......will we be losing this well known landmark?

Ministers Article...

The fact that our Church is a Landmark in the community has been enhanced over the past months. People passing by as well as a few calls to the Manse have all wanted the same question answered.....What is happening to your Church Tower?

The answer is quite simple.....at 104 years of age it is beginning to feel its age and needs some attention.

On Tuesday of last week we were given the go ahead for any works to be undertaken (this permission has to come from the URC District Council). The question that church members are asking is a different one. "How much is it going to cost"? The reason the scaffolding is there at the moment is that qualified people can assess the work that needs to be done and give a quote as to the sum it is likely to cost.

The Elders and members of the Finance and Property committee have been working hard on this subject. We have enlisted the support of the Synod and although we do not know the figure for this work we realise that it is going to be a large amount.

A  Tower Appeal Task Force  is already working away and David Fisher (The Convenor) gave a very helpful and inspiring presentation to the Elders just a few days ago.

The message is that we can do it.......David's question to the Elders was...

"How do you eat an elephant?"......answer.....One bite at a time......

This is the way we are going to tackle the fund raising for this major task.

Already we have an ideas bank, we have received a few donations, held a successful Coffee Morning and Sale......and as David said.....The first full meeting of the Fund Raising Group has not taken place.

So please Take Heart....we do have an interesting and challenging time ahead, which will be taken one step at a time...and be assured... you will all be kept informed of what is going on.

The Power behind us is much more than the task before us.

Shalom
John
